Alcohol consumption

There are a lot of people who consume alcohol in Canada and in Ontario. There is more and more alcohol that is sold each year. For example, in the year 2001 and 2002, there were over 985 million litres of alcohol that were sold to Ontario population. According to statistics, more than 80 percent of all those alcoholic beverages were beers.

Drunk and driving in Ontario

Ontario has seen a lot of car accidents in recent years. In 2003 alone, there just a little under a thousand car accidents fatalities. A third of those had alcohol consumption as a direct factor. More than 80 percent of all the crashes in which people died had some alcohol involved one way or another, even if it wasn’t the primary cause for the accidents.

There were more than 35% of all the injuries caused by accidents on the road that were linked to alcohol drinking. A lot of car crashes in Ontario had something to do with alcohol and so law officials are slowly trying to completely eradicate this threat to the population.

Drunk driving has been a problem in almost everywhere in Canada and the United States. Those kinds of statistics show that alcohol on the roads is still a huge problem. Many people in Ontario have suffered because of somebody who got behind the wheel while being under the influence of alcohol.

Students and alcohol

Alcohol is not only seen on the roads, it is also seen in school or with students outside of school. In a study conducted in Ontario, it was found that 66 percent of the students surveyed said that they had drunk alcohol that year. This rate has actually increased in the previous years. But it seems that people don’t drink as heavily as they did before. The rates of students who drink more than 5 drinks in one sitting have gone down by 14 percent.

Alcohol drinking is illegal when you are under the age of 18 years old. The statistics are alarming to the school officials and the officials truly want to stop this illegal drinking from happening in Ontario.
